Peter Bailey and Miami Gardens Mayor Oliver Gilbert at NiteCap Live in 2016

Peter Bailey joins Mayor Oliver Gilbert on Hot 105’s “Hot Talk with Jill Tracey” to discuss Jazz in the Gardens

It’s been more than two years since Peter Bailey hosted his critically-acclaimed “NiteCap Live” series in the city of Miami Gardens featuring Mayor Oliver Gilbert.

Now Bailey and the eccentric city leader will reconnect this Sunday on Hot 105’s storied program “Hot Talk with Jill Tracey” with veteran talk show host Jill Tracey.

Under Gilbert’s helm Miami Gardens has attracted large corporations like Starbucks to take up residence as well as gained investment from the Miami Dolphins.

Gilbert currently serves as president of the African-American Mayors Association. His accomplishments led to an endorsement from the legendary Luther Uncle Luke Campbell for Gilbert to possibly become Miami-Dade’s first black mayor.

However, it’s the evolution of Jazz in the Gardens where the city shines brightest. Recently called one of America’s best R&B music festivals by Essence magazine, the festival has stirred a cultural and economic renaissance of sorts in America’s fourth largest majority black city. This year’s festival features Lionel Richie, Bobby Brown, Brandy, Teddy Riley, Blackstreet, the O’Jays and other music legends.

Back in 2014 Mayor Oliver Gilbert became the first elected official to be featured on NiteCap. Watch this classic episode:

Bailey will headline the festival’s FMAC (Film, Music, Arts and Culture) Conference my showing excerpts from “Paradise Discovered: The Unbreakable Virgin Islanders”, the second film from his Paradise Discovered series on surviving both hurricanes Irma and Maria. The first film from the series, “The Anguilla Connection” debuted on the island of Anguilla in July. The series is based on Bailey’s New York Times Op Ed “Has America Forgotten the Virgin Islands”, which he wrote while building a makeshift roof.

Other FMAC panelists include R&B icon Betty Wright, Luther “Uncle Luke” Campbell and muralist Addonis Parker. The event marks Bailey’s first South Florida stop on his nationwide tour since his most recent screening at the University of South Florida in Tampa. The series has also screened at USC’s School of Cinematic Arts, the University of Delaware and was recently named as an official selection at Indie Night Film Festival at Hollywood’s world famous TCL Chinese Theater.

Hot Talk with Jill Tracey begins at 11 pm EST this Sunday on Hot 105 FM.
