Paradise Discovered: The Unbreakable Virgin Islanders to screen at USC in Los Angeles

I’m honored to have the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts, the best film school in the country, alongside the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, invite us out to Los Angeles to host our first screening of Paradise Discovered: The Unbreakable Virgin Islanders on the US mainland on Oct. 3. Our first advance screening on St. Thomas was a major success, as Virgin Islanders packed inside the Prior-Jollek on my birthday to celebrate our collective story. One of the highlights for me was having students from Bertha C. Boschulte Junior High attend as a class assignment. Our supporters at CBS USVI was there to capture the historic occasion. The film captures a cross-section of Virgin Islanders as depicted in the recently released Film Trailer.

Having laid my father to rest the previous day at a funeral befitting for the hero he was to me and so many, I considered the screening to be a celebration of his legacy as I’ve dedicated the film to him. “I know my father would want me to push forward,” is what I kept thinking upon walking onstage. He was was big on education, becoming an educator in Trinidad, before attending theology school in Jamaica and finally settling on St. Thomas. He always wanted to go to LA to sing and produce music. Now he’ll travel with me in spirit. We look forward to sharing the story of the Virgin Islands and the rest of the Caribbean far and wide so the region’s people are celebrated as much as the scenery.
