The Unbreakable Virgin Islanders Goes Ivy League with Invite to Brown University

As far as films go “Paradise Discovered: The Unbreakable Virgin Islanders” is a cultural tour de force capturing the incredible story of how residents of America’s sole majority black territory survived two category 5 hurricanes in less than two weeks, an unprecedented event in modern history.

Based on the New York Times Op Ed “Has America Forgotten the Virgin Islands” by acclaimed author and journalist Peter Bailey, Unbreakable now heads to prestigious Brown University on May 8th, marking the 11th stop on a nationwide screening tour Bailey has embarked on since debuting the film on his birthday on his native St. Thomas a day after his father Joseph Bailey was laid to rest.

Bailey has dedicated the film to his late father.

“I’ve chosen to screen Unbreakable at colleges to introduce America’s future to what I’ve called the most inspiring story of human resilience in America’s history that continues to go ignored by the media establishment and larger America as a whole,” says Bailey who himself survived both hurricanes Irma and Maria with his family on St. Thomas. “I wanted to make sure what we achieved as a community is immortalized.”

Thus far the film has garnered rave reviews from those who’ve attended the screenings at the various colleges and universities visited which includes USC’s School of Cinematic Arts, University of Delaware, University of South Florida and most recently the College of Charleston. Unbreakable has also been named an official selection at Indie Night Film Festival at the Chinese Theater located on the world famous Hollywood Walk of Fame.
