16 Nov Peter Bailey Talks “The Unbreakable Virgin Islanders” with Jesse Jackson
Peter Bailey will be the featured guest once again on an upcoming broadcast of civil rights icon Jesse Jackson’s nationally syndicated “Keep Hope Alive” radio show as Jackson invites Bailey to discuss his film “Paradise Discovered: The Unbreakable Virgin Islanders.“
Last year Jackson invited Bailey onto to the program after reading Bailey’s New York Times Op Ed “Has America Forgotten the Virgin Islands” which he wrote while building a make-shift roof.
After surviving both hurricanes Irma and Maria in his native St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands, Bailey, an award-winning author and journalist, has become a symbol of hope and recovery for the embattled US territory and elsewhere throughout the Caribbean.
Unbreakable is the second film in Bailey’s Paradise Discovered series capturing the voices of Caribbean hurricane survivors. The film has since debuted at USC’s School of Cinematic Arts and the University of Delaware to rave reviews since its St. Thomas debut on September 16, the filmmaker’s birthday. Bailey held the funeral for his father Joseph Bailey to whom the film is dedicated the day before the premiere.
The first film from Paradise Discovered, “The Anguilla Connection” debuted on the island of Anguilla back in July. Bailey is currently on tour with more upcoming screenings scheduled in Miami, New York, South Carolina, Atlanta and South Carolina. Unbreakable returns to St. Thomas on December 7 for a second showing at the University of the Virgin Islands.
Stay tuned for the time and date of Jackson’s highly-anticipated interview with Bailey.
