19 May Watch the trailer for “The Anguilla Connection” the first movie from the Paradise Discovered series
Peter Bailey debuts the trailer from “The Anguilla Connection” from his highly anticipated Paradise Discovered series in which the renowned journalist embarks on capturing the voices of those in the Caribbean ravaged by hurricanes Irma and Maria.
In this first offering from a series that promises to be culturally transforming, an array of voices including Pam Webster, the island’s Opposition Leader, legendary reggae singer Bankie Banx and even Bailey’s mother Anita Bailey share their hopes for Anguilla’s future since surviving the storms. The film also sheds light on the Anguilla Revolution like never before.
“I began the series in Anguilla my mother’s homeland, because during the storms I wanted to know where she garnered her strength,” says Bailey. “It’s time the world understands the Caribbean and the dynamic people who live beyond a tourist brochure”.
An island “where love is the center of all things” as described in this riveting documentary, Anguilla is a mystical land where old world values and modernization are finding it hard to co-exist.
Long known for its pristine beaches where movie stars like Leonardo DiCaprio and media titan Oprah kick back, Anguilla like many of the world’s preserved communities now finds itself wanting to move into the 21st Century.
Bailey has become a national hero throughout the Caribbean for his journalistic efforts after the storms. His controversial New York Times Op Ed “Has America Forgotten the Virgin Islands?” and subsequent interviews aired on CBS and other media outlets criticizing the US government’s handling of the islands’ recovery have since gone viral on social media. He wrote the Times’ piece while building a make-shift roof.
The Anguilla Connection is slated to premier on June 30 in Anguilla.
